Alright, so things have been a bit crazy, well ok…. really crazy. We’ve been working on new way to improve tracking due to the new “Inprivacy” feature from IE8. We should be rolling this out shortly, im super confident that its going to be an amazing success.
Getting back to the banners, yes, we’ve updated all the banners with new ones that better fit, our current offerings. So that should help out conversions. We’re also working on a day here in the upcoming days where we’ll be putting on a special… like a seriously BIG special to save folks even more money.
Thanks goes out to all the affiliates for doing all this expectional hard work. We greatly appriciate it. Remember, if you don’t currently have an affiliate account, you may always signup for one by click on the following link: http://www.hostican.com/company/affiliates.php
Thanks again!

Ouch. It’s been a long time… I didn’t realize until I actually had a moment today to take a look for how long I’ve not posted on the blog. Sorry about that.
We’ve been hard at work trying to come up with a few solutions to a couple of issues that we’ve seen arise lately. One of them being that we need to have more of an extensive knowledgebase for our customers, so we hired a bunch of US content writers in house to write our tutorials going forward, so you will soon see more support articles being posted and hopefully that will help everyone out a lot.
We’ve also been busy at work seeing what we can do to improve speed and performance (as always) for our customers. We have come up with a few neat ideas, which we will be releasing soon, but nothing that would require any maintenance windows. So that’s a BIG PLUS for everyone involved. This would be like our G4 release (Generation 4) of server technology. I must add that the more we look / research, the more complex and costly the servers become.
We’ve also been doing quite a bit of programming in order to improve and automate our services, to allow customers to enjoy faster delivery of services. So that’s been a big thing for us, and we’ve devoted many hours and months of work to this. You should start seeing some visible changes soon – so keep your eyes peeled.
I will be back soon to post more news as soon as we finish up some of the other projects we have going — and, no, I can’t tell you about them just yet.

Opps… I’ve been away it seems for quite a while. That’s not cause I have forgotten about you guys, it’s just we’ve been super hard at work finding and improving our services just for you.
For example, over the last couple of weeks, I’ve been working with our network engineers to turn up two new providers. I would like to cordially welcome Level3 and Savvis into the HostICan BGP mix.
Another fine example is one that may hit closer to home. It’s our eagerly anticipated V3 Affiliate System. This system really puts most other web hosting affiliate programs to shame. A 99% automated system, featuring advanced IP and Cookie Tracking, as well as automated account validation and commission reviews.
We’ve also added a HUGE selection of banners to our upgraded affiliate system, so if the old banners don’t fit your site, not to worry — we have about 12 different sizes that may.
We’re also working in our lab to deliver a major new improvement, one which I can’t as yet share. However, we’re really excited about it and as soon as we get it finished, we will let you know.
Once again, Happy Halloween!!

Sorry for not posting so long. However, we have been so busy of late here. We spent the summer improving our network / programming and working on a few new projects that we have had in the pipeline for months and finally they are getting finished.
As some of you may have already heard, we are working on a new affiliate system. It’s been on the community forum for a while, but now it’s finally coming to the testing phase where we will be accepting private beta testers for it. For more information about the affiliate system, please view the following link: http://forum.hostican.com/affiliate-program-questions-f12/hostican-affiliate-program-v3-t1085/
As part of our growth, we have been working hard on preparing to move cages inside our current datacenter, as we have outgrown our current one (which is a great thing for customers, as they will start seeing more improvements shortly after the migration has been completed). Here is an email that was recently sent out to all customers to let you know about the migration:
Dear Customer,
This is an email to inform you about an upcoming maintenance window that is planned. Below is more information about when, where, why the maintenance window will take place.
WHEN: Friday, August 29th 2008 | Start time: 11:30 PM EST - 3:30AM EST
*Please note that the above maintenance window is only a timeframe and if possible we will complete the maintenance faster then the above indicated timeframe of 4 hours.
For your local time on this, please view: http://timeanddate.com/worldclock/fixedtime.html?month=8&day=29&year=2008&hour=23&min=30&sec=0&p1=212
WHERE: Ashburn, VA.
WHY: All services will be affected at this time. We will be upgrading our physical presence by moving cages to allow for future expansion. This move will help us further to organize and improve our service to you as a customer.
If you have regular visitors to your site during the above hours, we suggest that you put up a notice to inform them of the maintenance window. We know from past experience that they will appreciate this and that it will, as a result, have minimal impact on your online presence.
We do appreciate your understanding in this matter, and for supporting us in making a better service for you. If you have any further questions, please don’t hesitate to contact us.
Best Regards,
HostICan Operations
Well, after doing one of those famous all-nighters, everything was moved to the new cage, and we are poised for tremendous growth in the months ahead.
So stay tuned.

It’s been a while since I’ve posted and thought that I would take this opportunity to do so. I must say that we have been doing huge amounts of improvements, one of which I’m proud to announce.
Unlike other hosts, we’ve taken the time and opportunity to build our own custom affiliate system. This system will far surpass anything that is built or purchasable on the web to date. We’ve been working hard on it in the lab for quite a while and are about to announce RC1 (Release Candidate 1).
RC 1 (Here I go sounding like a programmer) will allow the affiliate to be able to change anything about their account at any time, no more waiting on some boring affiliate manager (not that we are) to change a username or a password for you. No more asking them how your referral paid or if the sale was credited to you.
How would you like a completely automated solution? A solution that gives you all the data, allows you to create / edit / remove your own coupons? Or how about a system that allows you to change your username at any time and view all the data possible about a customer that you have referred?
There are a few systems (close) to what we have designed and are finishing building, but ours takes their features and 10xes them.
We ran a private demo for one development company about a week ago (just a brief review of the interface -– so we have an outsider’s thoughts on the matter) and at the end of the demo, we where asked if we license this software and/or if we are willing to sell the software.
There is lots more coming soon; just keep your eyes peeled for RC2. We will have some exciting updates (a few things we haven’t had time to add in RC1 as yet).

I’ve been hearing lots of debates from just about everyone, saying we need to go green. It’s funny, because most of the people yell and scream about going green, but they still drive in cars, and quite often trucks and SUVs, still use anti-natural products such as plastic, etc.
So what does “Going Green” really mean? Well, I’ve tried to see how you can take a company from non-green to green. The funny part is that it costs more to go green and stay green then not to go green at all.
While the citizens are going green, the country isn’t; Most of the pollutants from cars and factories still pour out into the skies every day. However, some hosts go really crazy, and they say “Our servers are powered with solar panels!” -– and that’s honest!
Well, let’s see: An average server takes from 1–3 AMPS of power. You would have to live in a climates that are mostly sunny, such as in Arizona, California or Florida, to successfully power, say, 1000 servers on solar panels. Not to mention that you need to drive a bike to work (or learn to power sail).
And what happens when it rains? That’s right, no solar panels in Redmond, WA, home of Microsoft.
Can someone explain how “Green Powered Servers” really work? You still use electricity and you can’t shut your servers down when it’s dark outside.

It’s not cold, it’s not warm, but it’s in the middle. It’s also known as spring, when folks start to get out more… hiking, biking, laughing (outside); anything to do with being outside.
As it’s spring, we thought it would be a good time to give a discount in honor of this wonderful season, so we’ve done just that. We’re giving you 20% off any shared hosting order for the next month! (Truth be told, we’ve been running it since the first).
You will see it during the checkout process — 20% off! Check our plans and see if they fit into your action plans for spring. http://www.hostican.com/hosting/shared-hosting.php
